We are a third generation dairy family in the Mills River area, our Grandfather started selling fresh milk to the public in 1917. Our father was born in 1920 and raised his family in the Avery’s Creek community. As he became a young man he realized that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps so when our grandfather decided to retire he took over the farm. He and our mother raised 5 children, one girl and five boys. Our sister grew up to become a teacher and high school principal. She has since retired but stays very active in the Henderson county educational system. The oldest brother Graduated from WCU and took over our father's retail business- Fletcher Lawn and Garden. The other three sons decided to continue the family dairy.
We relocated in the Mills River area in 1975 and have continued to operate the family farm. All of the milk that we process comes from our cows that have been raised on the farm. We grow all of our hay and corn here locally. We do have to buy other feed products to fill the animal needs such as protein, vitamins, and minerals. We do not give our animals any growth hormones and only use an antibiotic if our veterinarian prescribes that it be done for an individual animal. In the spring of 2014, we decided to start a small processing facility In Mills River. In August of 2014,we bottled our fist cream line milk and began to offer it to the community. It was so well received that we now have it in several retail stores in the Asheville area. Since August we have added Chocolate milk, Buttermilk and fresh Buttermilk to our dairy products. We hope you enjoy our family tradition as much as we have over the last 98 years, and if you are ever in our neighborhood stop by and see use at the Creamery. We also have some of our products in these local locations.
